Day 5 now available

First in today is Lori with her day 4 and this comment:
"Well I have finally caught up to day 4. Thanks to Martha for how to do the Zchain!!!
Thanks
Lori"

Next in and very welcome too, is Lelia who has just joined us with her day 1.
"Dear Jane:
I will catch up to the other participants (soon).
Attached is my day one.
Always, Carol blogging as "Lelia"
Stitches of Life II

Claire is back now with her day 2. She says:
"Hello Jane,
Here is my day 2. It's now quite symmetrical. Could still be a horse, but we will have to wait and see.
More details on my blog:
Thank you for the fun guessing game.
---
Claire (BC, Canada)"

Muskaan is the first in with day 5. I think she must be waiting in front of the computer each day!!!
"Dear Jane
Your mischief knows no spatial bounds - Day 4 release chopped world #2 off the tournament and Day 5 release saw your own world #1 walking off the Australian Open court ;-P
May be this is a huge butterfly drone you are using to keep track :-D
Hugs
muskaan :-)
Not sure what language you're speaking, muskaan, but I'm guessing you're 'talking tennis'?

Second in is Sonja who has a good guess too!
"Hello Jane,
Here is my day 5. I still think it is a ladyBut you are very clever to make something else of it. :-)
Sonja from a cold, but sunny Holland"

I think Maureen's invented a new technique!!!! I've never heard of thread chicken before but I've done it MANY times!!!
"Here is Day 4 corrected 4 times, and Day 5 - I was looking forward to more zig zags, now that I'm so very good at them! - I even had a sustaining little drink to help me concentrate.
When we started, I was so careful to wind the correct amount of thread onto the shuttles, but I think that I am now officially playing Thread Chicken, because I can see bare space on the posts. Playing Thread Chicken involves tatting a lot faster, of course, so that you can reach the end of the split rings before the thread runs out."
That looks like my favourite tipple - G & T!!!!

Claudia is the next in the inbox with her day 5. She says:
"Good Morning Jane
Here comes my day 5, well, for a hot air balloon it looks strange, but everything is possible.....
Now I will make a good sunday breakfast and then looking some Sport on TV.
Have a nice Sunday and a good start in the new week. Greetings from Zurich
Claudia"
A little later in the morning I had a further conversation with Claudia and she is watching the International Festival of Balloons so now I know why she is talking about balloons!!!  Here's the link for everybody to see.

Next in is one of my intrepid translators - Julie. She says:
"Hello Jane !
I don't remember if I send you my day 4 picture so I join it to this e mail."

Irene is back with her days 4 and 5 and she says:
"Hi Jane,
Thank you for your help, you're doing very well your patterns, it is I who can not read.
Here are day 4 corrected and day 5.
But I still do not know what this will become.
Kiss"

Jacee is a very determined tatter!!! She's made up her mind what she thinks it's going to be and nothing is going to change it!!!
"Hello Jane,
I still hold on to my belief that she is a crinoline lady.
Jacee"

Fiona from 'down under' is next with her day 5. She says:
"Hi Jane
Bit late with my day 5 today as were were out to dinner on this beautiful warm Sunday evening.
I agree with Muskaan's line of thinking...perhaps this is a butterfly?
Only time will tell!
Best wishes

What a shame. Sue has decided it isn't an elephant's foot umbrella stand. This reminds me of Maureen who decided at this point last year that her TIAS wasn't going to be her longed for rabbit. Keep hoping, Sue.
"Ok... so I don't see a way of attaching a handle to this umbrella stand... or umbrella for that matter... maybe a jellyfish??"

Just back from a walk and I find the first person in my inbox is Emilia. She sends in days 4 and 5 with this comment:
"Hi Jane,
This are the day 4 and 5. It crossed my mind that it could be an roman vase. Very stylish. Waiting for the next part to see if I'm right.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Emilia Teerds-de Jonge."

Annie is next in with her day 5 and she says:
"Hi Jane,
Here is my work of Day5.
Does not look like a dinosaurus now...
Happy tatting from Indonesia,
Annie"

Blanche is next with her day 5 and she's decided to start again! She says:
"Hey Jane
I felt disappointed with my first tias because I made too much weird things. So I started over from day 1 again with another thread (from Edda Guastalla)
With this coloured tias, I now think we are tatting a tanoura dancer.
But I'm not sure I'm right, I must say ;-)
Thanks again !
Blanche"

I now have Tim in my inbox with his day 5. He has been helping others too.
"My day 5, Jane. I explained the zigzag at the Palmetto Tatters yesterday. Now they are back on track.
Tim
K4TGK"
Oh, I haven't seen any Palmetto Tatters taking part in the TIAS.  That's good news.

AnSo is next to arrive with both day 4 and day 5. She says:
"Hi Jane,
My day 4 and 5.
I'm a little late on day 4 but I’m up to date now. I still have no idea.
Thanks
AnSo Alia"

Next in is P Melanie who says:
"I can't imagine what it can be, but I think I like it!"

Ankie is the next into my inbox. She says:
"Hallo Jane,
Dag 4 en 5.
Hr.gr. groetjes. Ankie Kaspers

Hi Jane,
Day 4 and 5.
Hr.gr. Greetings. Ankie Kaspers"

Jane has just arrived in my inbox and she has another idea!
"Hi Jane,
Day 5. It’s Cinderella’s pumpkin!"

Next in is from Anna who is one of the Hungarian tatters. My thanks to Jolimama for sending this for her.

Further Day 4's and new arrivals

Tomorrow will be Day 5.

First in this morning is from Sarah and hers comes with another rhyme too. She's really getting into her stride now!!!
"Jane,
Ah yes, I see what is did.
Counted zig as one
and zag as two.
But my mistake
was spotted by you
and you kindly told me what to do.
So day four I resubmit
after re-tatting that little bit.
Could it be a hot air balloon
that we will see drifting by soon?
Sarah"

Next in is Stephanie Grace who says:
"I should have known you wouldn't be that predictable. I mean, hammerhead shark? Goodness! Now that I've ruled that out, though, I have just this to say: I don't know where you're taking us with this, but it occurred to me today that I've tatted a toilet... Look at it! It's a potty! :-O (Or a cradle, but toilet is funnier...). ;-)
Thank you for everything, Jane!
Stephanie Grace"
A TOILET?  What a GREAT idea!!!  If it isn't a potty this year it's an idea for next year!!!!!

Sue is next with a slight concern over her zigs and her zags!!!
"Hi Jane, here is day 4 finished. I think I may have zigged when I should have zagged but that is still a very pretty new stitch I learned."

My other Denise has sent in her day 4.  Here's the picture.

Rose Anne has sent in her day 4 and says:
"OK I think I understood the instructions after Jane's comment too!"

Lyn is next and she says:
"Hi Jane,
Here is my day 4.i have no idea what it will be but love seeing all the ladies photos
Regards from
Lyn
WA"

Love Patricia's little story which comes next:
"The " turtle lady" ( Patricia) was blessed by getting a rare visit with her good friend Sonya. A late night of tatting resulted in a duo for a photo.
Sonya's ballerina is on the left. Patricia's turtle is on the right."

Claire has just arrived with her day 1. Welcome, Claire.
"Hello Jane,
I am a bit late in joining the fun, but here is my day 1.
As for a guess, I will respect my tradition by saying it is a horse. ;)

This is another starter for this year's TIAS. This is from Jane who says:
"Hi Jane, I can't add the pic of day 1 to my blog but I think I can beat the system (or lack of system) to get it to you! So excited about the new TIAS that I can't wait for our wifi to be sorted out. I'm using my silver shuttle again, and Milford variegated thread."
I was admiring your 'blue' shuttle until I read your comment!!!

Next to arrive is Celine who says:
"Bonjour Jane. Voici mon jour 4 a la navette à droite et mes jours 1,2,3 et 4 a l'aiguille à gauche. Je le fais également a l'aiguille pour aider les fille du groupe francophone Facebook frivolité. Mes diplodocus ont une serieux soucis
Très bonne journée Jane et merci. Céline

Hello Jane. Here is my day 4 was the shuttle to the right and my days 1,2,3 and 4 has left needle. I also do a needle to help daughter of the Francophone group Facebook frivolity. My diplodocus have serious worries
Jane and thank you very good day. Céline"
Oh your poor diplodocus - I'm sure he'll survive!!

Catherine is the next arrival in my inbox. She says:
"Voilà mon jour 4 sans savoir ce que c'est ?????
Catherine

That's my 4 day without knowing what it is ?????
Catherine"

Next in is one of our new Hungarian friends - Joli Mama. She says:
"Drága Jane! Elkészült a 4. nap. Sokat gyakoroltam, jó volt. Egy újabb technikát tanultam, öröm volt készíteni.
Barátsággal: Jolimama

Dear Jane! It finished the day fourth. I practiced a lot, it was good. A newer technique is learned, it was fun to make.
Friendship Joli Mama"
I LOVE your picture.  Wonderful colours.

Marie is next with her day 4 and some concerns about her zig zag chain.
"Hi Jane ! Hope you're fine. Here m'y Day 4. It was my first zigzag chain. I am not sure it's perfect. 😉 "
Well it's the right length, Marie and that's what's important!!!

Now I have Sonya back with her day 4 and another rhyme!
"Jane,

Patricia Lyn's turtle is a wonderlust,
So it is OKC or bust,
Where we sip our tea
While we tat-n-chat,
Now is there any chance,
My ballerina will dance?

Thank you,
Sonya
Oklahoma City, OK USA"

Ankie has just arrived with her day 4. This is what she says.
"Here are my results for now.
I think that it is a balloon with a basket under it.
Groetjes, Ankie"

The final person to arrive today is Gea who says:
"Hello Jane,
I am still guessing but who knows what day 5 will bring us.
Greetings
Gea
The Netherlands"

More Day 4 pictures

Before I start uploading this morning I must clarify the zig zag chain.

The 'zig' is the ordinary double and the 'zag' is the unflipped double. When you've done a zig and a zag you have one repeat. You need 8 before and 8 after the join to the ring on day 4.

First in this morning is from Shirley who says:
"No clue yet ... I like the skirts that are showing up on the blog, though! Shirley"

Second in today is from Linda who has sent in her day 4 picture:

Sandra has just arrived with her days 1 to 4:
"“I ran too low on thread, and didn’t like my thread choice anyway, so started over and here are days 1-4. I will say it was easier for me to do the unflipped stiches on the zch if I didn’t try to close down the loop until I had it in place, otherwise it would flip."

Next a woman with the same ideas on the brain as me!!!! Drink!!!! Here's what Bev has to say:
"Hi Jane
Here's a guess. It's probably not a wine glass but it does fit nicely, especially where the stem would join.
I have never done a zigzag chain before either. It's an interesting effect. Thanks for teaching us all something new again.
Bev"

Lori is next in with her days 1 - 4 minus one!!!
"Well I have finally caught up to day 4. Thanks to Martha for how to do the Zchain!!!
Thanks
Lori
Pictures are in order (I hope)
Well it will be day 2-4. I lost day 1! Hahaha at least I did not
loss the tatting for day one!! Hehe
Lori"

Bernice is the next person in the inbox and this is her comment:
"Hi Jane,
So many tatters and shuttles from around the world, enjoying it all. My guess today, a birdcage.
Cheers,
Bernice in Western Canada"

Back home after another lovely afternoon with friends at a craft group.

The first person in my inbox is from Anna and she says:
"Anna elkészült, tűvel csinálja.
Ölelés

Anna is ready, the needle does.
Hug"

Next to come in is Annie who had a problem (like a few others) with the zig zag chain. Here's her comment
"Jane, I've finished my ZCh. Hopefully it's true now.
I'll wait for your comment.
Thank you Jane
Happy Tatting,
Annie"
Looks fine to me now, Annie.

Nora has sent in her day 4 picture now.  Here it is.

Now I have Katie's day 4's - yes she's doing two as well.
"Geez, Jane, love the zigzag chains! Haven't done those in ages! Guesses are still zig zagging in my head, less successfully than in my tatting!
Great fun!
Katie V in NC"

Orane has now sent in her day 4 too. She seems to have given up on the multi coloured cow, now!!!!
"Hi Jane
Ca.est dur pour moi d'admettre que je ne frivole pas une vache multi-color...
Je suis perdue vite le jour 5.

Hi Jane
It's hard for me to admit that I do not frivolate a multi-color cow ...
I'm lost quickly on day 5

Judy has now sent in her day 4.  Here it is.

Rose Anne has sent in her day 3 as she's been rather busy. Here's her comment.
"OK I'm behind but also at a quilting retreat."
Sounds like you're having a good time, Rose Anne.

Day 4 has just arrived from Maglina. Her comment and picture are here.
"Bonjour Jane.
Pour le jour 4 je vois la couronne de la reine ...
Hello Jane.
4 For the day I see the crown of Queen ....
Maglina"
I like your idea, Maglina. I'm sure the Queen would like this crown too.

Martha has now sent in her day 4 and her comment is:
"Waah! The colors on my two shuttles coincided so I didn't get the lovely two tone effect you usually get with mixing flipped and unflipped stitches.
Thanks for the advice on counting sets instead of stitches.
-Martha"

The next person to send in her day 4 has done her research before doing it. Christine sent in this comment and picture.
"Hi Jane
Here is a picture of my progress on Day 4.
I tatted a lock stitch chain first, then realized my mistake when it didn't look quite like the diagram.
I printed your technique pages on lock chain and zig zag chains and made samples before continuing with the TIAS. Thanks for the challenge. :)
-Christine in Alabama"
